No need to repeat that they are far too restrictive and unsustainable but they simply take away the joy of eating.
Diets don’t work, they take away all the pleasure.
Did you know that pleasure while eating is a digestive metabolizer? If eating is a constant battle and food is the enemy, it is about time to bring back pleasure to the table. A lack of it creates a stress response. I know, I am always coming back with the flight or fight mode but it is a real thing!
Food is my enemy = no pleasure = more cortisol and insulin = more cravings + body stores fat
Not cool, right. Diets don’t work, they take away the trust.
I once said this in my instastory and wow, all the feedbacks I got… Diets ask you to trust their magical products and programs 100% in exchange of wonderful results. Your role is to trust. By doing so, you are giving full power to the person who created that diet, it almost feels like a supreme order that you will follow closely. Stunning to be told how much to eat, when to eat, how much exercise you need and how much weight you will lose, right? What a great promise but guess what? People hate rules when it comes to eating, that is why they drop out after a while.
How can we be in touch with our inner cues if we fully trust a one-size-fits-all cookie cutter approach diet? Seriously! Following all the strict rules leaves no room for figuring out what works best for you.
Diets don’t work, but this does.
If you really need to lose weight, the first steps are:
- To figure out why you gained weight in the first place.
Did you gain weight because you don’t have a proper diet or did you gain weight for another reason?
If so, what happened, did you overeat to numb feelings, to cope with a stressful situation, to compensate for some deep needs, …?
- To start listening to what your body needs, and I am not only talking about food here, I am taking about the deeper needs.
- To rebuild a healthy relationship with food by learning to trust yourself again.
Where do I start?
This is where I was before healing from my eating disorder. Where do I start? I never listened to my body, I have been neglecting it for so many years, shutting down all its screaming messages. I started small, I started by listening and the rest happened so naturally just like a snowball effect. My story lead me to become a Holistic Nutrition and Eating Psychology Coach to help as many people as I can to heal from a complicated relationship with food.
